What we collect

When you join our list, we collect the email address you provide, the date and time you gave consent, and the IP address associated with that signup, which we keep with your consent record.

Why we collect it

We use this information to send you launch updates, invite you into new collections when they arrive, and share occasional news from Best Jammies. We do not use it for anything else, and joining the list on its own does not create an account. Signing in to Counting Sheep does: see Your account below.

Counting Sheep

Our lamb game runs in your browser. Your progress, your settings, your best scores and any reward tickets you have not used are kept on your device, in local storage. Once you sign in, our server also keeps your best scores, as described below. When a field starts and when you finish it, the game asks our server for a run token and, if the field has a reward, a ticket. To keep the game fair, the game also sends the moves you made in a field. We replay them on our server to check the score. If you finish a field before you have joined the ranking, the game also keeps a record of that field on your device, in local storage, for up to six hours: the moves and the score, with no email and no name. It is there only so the field can be saved to the ranking once you join, and it is removed as soon as it has been sent or the six hours have passed.

Each time a field starts or finishes, our server also keeps one line for it: the field, whether you finished it, the first part of your IP address (never the whole address), your approximate country and your browser type. The line holds no email and nothing else that names you. We keep these lines for 12 months. Because they hold no email, we cannot find them by email, so they cannot be erased one by one. They are not kept at all when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, or when you have turned statistics off in this browser (see the button below).

The first field is practice. When a finished field earns a reward, you enter your email to get your code. To prevent fraud and abuse, and to honor your code, we record these things when you play and when you ask for a code:

• your email address;
• the reward you earned and its code;
• your game results: the field you reached, your count, your stars, your score and your time;
• your IP address and the network it belongs to, which is the provider or hosting company that runs your connection;
• your approximate country, taken from your connection;
• your device type (phone, tablet or computer), your browser type and your language, taken from your browser;
• your ranking name, if you choose one.

We use them to send you your code and to honor it on your first order, and to prevent fraud and abuse: one person asking for many codes, or a program playing in place of a person. Each code is tied to one email address, so it cannot be used twice. We record your email when you ask for the code, even if you never open the confirmation link, and whether or not you tick the newsletter box. The code itself is created when you ask for it while signed in. We show it in the game and on your account page, and we do not email it unless we tell you so. We keep them while the offer runs and for up to 12 months after it ends, or until you ask us to delete them. The exception is your ranking name and your best score on each field: we keep those until you ask us to delete them, with no end date. The IP address, the network and the browser details are deleted 12 months after we record them. We never sell any of it. Rewards are valid at launch.

We also look at how a field was played, to tell a person from a program. A run that looks automated may be left out of the ranking and the rewards. If you think we got it wrong, write to us and we will look again.

The monthly ranking lists the top players of the month. It shows only the name you choose and your score, never your email. A ranking name is public. It has 2 to 16 characters, and we refuse names that look like an email address, a link or a phone number. The ranking starts again every month. Before we send a prize code, we check the entry by hand.

The all time ranking keeps your ranking name and your best score on each field, with no end date, until you ask us to delete them. It shows only your ranking name and your scores, never your email. When you open the game on another browser and come back with your email, we send your best scores back to that browser.

The newsletter is separate and optional. Your email joins the launch list, described above, only if you tick the box in the form and then open the confirmation link, or if you switch it on yourself on your account page while you are signed in. Otherwise we never send you news.

Your account

When you sign in, we email you one link and one code to prove the address is yours. Opening the link, or typing the code in the game, signs this browser in. There is no password.

Signing in sets cookies in your browser. One is named __Host-bj_session. It holds a signed note with your email key and the time it was set, so we know it is you on your next visit. Another, bj_in, only says that you are signed in. We use them for signing in and for nothing else: no tracking and no advertising. If you tick “Keep me signed in on this browser”, they last up to 400 days and renew when you return. If you do not, they end when you close the browser, or after 7 days. You can sign out on this browser at any time from your account page. Because the long lasting cookies are set only when you tick that box, we do not show a cookie banner for them.

Your account page shows what we hold about you: your email, your ranking name, your scores, your code and whether it is used, and your newsletter choice. From it you can switch the newsletter on or off and delete your account. Deleting removes your code, your scores, your ranking name, your newsletter subscription and the network and device details we kept to prevent fraud. A reward ticket you already spent stays marked as spent, without your email, so it cannot be used twice. We also keep one line in our log that says an account was deleted, with a short keyed code that cannot be read back into your email: no email, no IP address, no name. If your code was already used, or we are looking at your account for fraud, the page cannot delete it and asks you to write to us, and we do it by hand.

When the shop opens, your account will also show your orders. We will update this page before that happens.

Visits and statistics

We count visits to our own site, so we know which pages people read and where they come from. Each page you open sends us one small note. It holds the page name (never the full address or anything after a question mark), the website you came from (its name only), the campaign tags of the link if it had any, your language, a rough screen size, and the country, device type and browser type we read from your connection. It never holds your email address or your name, and we do not store your IP address with it. The game sends a few more notes the same way, such as a field started or a game over, with small numbers like the field and the score.

To tell a new visitor from a returning one, your browser keeps a random code. It is not tied to you, and it holds no email. It stays in your browser for up to 13 months and is then replaced. Our server keeps only a scrambled copy of it. We use it for these counts and for nothing else. We never share it, and it does not follow you to other websites. We keep these notes for up to 12 months.

To opt out, turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser. We then store no code at all and count your visit as anonymous. You can also turn statistics off in this browser with the button below, or clear this site’s data in your browser settings at any time to delete the code.

Who processes it

Your information is stored with Cloudflare, which hosts this site and its database, and our emails are delivered through Resend; each processes it under its own privacy policy. The cookies you get when you sign in are set by our own site, and nobody else reads them. Cloudflare may also run a bot check when you sign in, claim a reward or choose a ranking name. If we run campaigns through Klaviyo, it processes your address under its privacy policy too. We do not sell, rent or trade your information to anyone, for any reason.

Your choices

Every newsletter email includes a link to unsubscribe, and it takes effect right away. The email with your game code is not a newsletter: to remove your email from our records, or to ask what we hold about you, write to us at hello@bestjammies.com. You can also ask us to delete your information entirely. That includes your account, your reward code, your game results, your ranking name, the network and device details we kept to prevent fraud, and the tickets you spent. If you have an account, you can do it yourself on your account page (unless your code was already used, or your account is held for review: then write to us), and you can switch the newsletter off there too.

Children

Our game is gentle, but our emails are for adults. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to enter their email for you. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If a child has sent us an email address, write to hello@bestjammies.com and we will delete it. Signing in is for adults. The game has no advertising.

Your rights

If you are in Canada, this list operates under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA): we collect and use your email only with your express consent, and you may withdraw that consent at any time. If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) to know what personal information we hold about you and to request its deletion.
